Project 2 - Organise Your Speech

Dating Ideas 101

“Sigh……. So sian, it’s the weekend, don’t know where to go for pak tor, its always either watching movies or makan. We have finished watching all the movies in the cinema already! And I’m on diet lah…. Don’t want to eat out at restaurants, my tummy showing already!”Good evening Mr President, fellow toastmasters and guests. How often have we heard of our friends complaining to us that Singapore is too boring, and couples are always complaining that the dating life is boring too?! Fret not, let me, the guru here, to give you some ideas. I can assure you that after this session, you will walk away with some fresh ideas of what you can do over the weekend with your loved ones.

Singaporeans really like to eat, and every weekend, we can see all the restaurant chains crowded with diners. It is sometimes such a headache to eat out during the weekends. Sure, if you want to have romantic ambience, you could jolly well choose to eat at some expensive restaurants with dim lights and nice music playing in the background. But why pay top dollars for such commercial settings? You can recreate that romantic atmosphere at a lower cost! Why not have a romantic dinner by the sea? All you will need is a mat, some food that you take away from your favourite foodstall, be it the hainanese chicken rice or char kway tiao, a bottle of wine, disposable cups and a tealight candle. And voila! You are done! Head over to east coast park, choose a spot that is comfortable enough, and lay out your stuffs. You and your loved one can eat and drink and enjoy the seabreeze at the same time. Sounds even more romantic than eating at a restaurant right? After the dinner, both of you could walk along the seaside, holding hands together and enjoy the nature and the peaceful sound of the sea waves splashing on the shore.

Ladies, going on diet is really not the ideal way of losing weight. It is painful and ineffective. How could you ever resist the temptation of good food?! Why not choose a healthier lifestyle instead? Do some sports or outdoor activities that both you and your boyfriend will enjoy. One stone kills two birds. You get to lose some fats and also spend some time together with your partner. If you don’t know how to swim, get your boyfriend to teach you! Swimming is a good form of exercise. You get to wear sexy swimwear or bikini to show off to your boyfriend! Sentosa is a great place to hang out too! Plan a little picnic at one of the beaches and get some sun. You can either play Frisbee or just silly ball games in the water. When you are bored, you can also check out the beach hunks and babes and treat yourself to some eye candies. Sentosa has just revamped the Palawan beach which is made family-orientated. You and your boyfriend/girlfriend can join the children and play in the kids area to recollect your childhood memories! Even if you don’t like to get on the beach, sentosa offers a variety of other activities at the various tourists spots. Whats more that sentosa is now much more accessible with the newly constructed LRT system that connects from Vivocity.

My last suggestion is to learn something new together. Both of you could either take up a new foreign language, learn salsa dance, take up cooking classes, learn pottery or do some volunteer work together! If both of you take up a new language, you could communicate and practise with each other. If you enjoy cooking a nice meal for your man, you can get him to take up cooking classes together with you. So the next time, he can cook something nice for you too! Both of you can also contribute to society by doing volunteer work. It’s a meaningful activity and the time is well-spent. You and your boyfriend or girlfriend maybe very different in terms of personality. He may be crazy about sports, but you may hate it. She likes shopping, but you are just uninterested. A relationship is not just about communication, but also about doing things together. If the 2 of you have something in common, it will really help to improve the relationship. Try to learn and appreciate each other’s interest. If your boyfriend likes to play computer games, learn to play so you can compete with him. If your girlfriend likes to dance, get her to teach you so both of you can dance at home!

Singapore maybe small, activities maybe limited. But its really up to your creativity and efforts to come up with new ideas on how to spend quality and fun times together with your other half. If you truly enjoy spending time with your partner, I’m sure it doesn’t really matter what activity it is.

Singapore is not boring, it is Singaporeans themselves who are boring.
